TRAFFIC RULES IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC

Driving side

Drive on the right side of the road and overtake on the left.

Seat belts

Seat belts are mandatory for all passengers, both in the front and rear seats.

Speed limits

• Urban areas: 50 km/h (31 mph)
• Rural roads: 90 km/h (56 mph)
• Motorways: 130 km/h (81 mph)

Alcohol limit

The Czech Republic has a zero-tolerance policy for alcohol. The legal blood alcohol limit is 0.0%. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly prohibited and heavily penalized.

Use of mobile phone

Using a mobile phone while driving is not allowed unless using a hands-free system.

Child safety

Children under 150 cm (4'11") or under 36 kg (79 lbs) must be seated in an appropriate child car seat or booster seat.

Roundabouts

Vehicles already in the roundabout have the right of way. Always signal when exiting.

Toll roads

Highways and expressways in the Czech Republic are subject to tolls. Vehicles up to 3.5 tons must display a vignette (toll sticker) on the windshield. Vignettes can be purchased at gas stations, post offices, or online.

Parking

Always park in designated areas. Unauthorized parking may result in fines or your vehicle being towed.
